DaVinci Resolve 21.1 Studio required. MagicScript is a Workflow Integration Plugin, which Blackmagic only supports in Resolve Studio. It will not run on the free version of DaVinci Resolve at all, and it needs 21.1 or later.
Resolve 21.1 added an MCP server, so your AI can talk to Resolve. You ask for something, it reads the API, writes a script and runs it. Boom.
But it can get a little bit... daft. Ask for the same thing tomorrow, or a slightly tweaked version, and it writes the whole script again from scratch. And it might even be slightly different, because AI does like to see ghosts every now and again.
MagicScript is where the script goes to live. Use the AI once to write it, save it with a set of variables you can change on every run, then just press the button.
The script already exists. No waiting around while something thinks about it.

If you want AI to decide what your shorts are, which takes are the good ones, where the video should cut, then you need AI, and you will be shipping your footage off to the cloud to get it.
MagicScript is for the other camp. I decide what the shorts are by dropping markers on my own timeline. I pick the grade, the takes, the look. Then a script does the boring bit: the vertical timelines, the captions, the naming, the filing away in a bin. The monotonous non-creative jobs go to the script, the fun stuff stays with me, and I get on with making something else. Or have a cup of tea.
Keep the creative control. Give away the admin.
A script runs unattended. Write one that deletes all your projects and it will delete all your projects, without batting an eyelid. There is no undo.
I have built some safety barriers into MagicScript. It saves your project before it runs anything, and anything destructive says so in orange and makes you tick a box first. That covers the scripts that come with it. It cannot cover a script you or your AI wrote at midnight.
So please do keep it in mind. If in doubt, do not run it. Or paste it into an AI first and ask what it does before you let it loose on a project you care about.
